It seems like an extreme way to me too. Just say, I'm sorry but I have no ending for this piece. And if somebody comes along to ask permission to finish it---all the better. But to---hey, you can't say you died? Somebody else is drawn into the conspiracy if they say it. That is just so----uuugh---can't think of the word.
Most of the people I know of who haven't finished pieces just drift off the web. You cannot find them anymore---either they left the site they posted on or the list. Nothing you can do except to stop reading WIP or know the person as personally as you can on the web---or somebody who knows them---and can state we will finish it. Prolific Peggy.
