I know they need the feedback, but I can tell you that I have seen a lot of authors quit writing their stories, that I loved to read, and now are just gone. I understand that they are having some real life problems, but I just really want to know how it all ends. I wait for months and months for updates, and I stick with them, but now, I am all for the finished works. I will rarely start a WIP.

That's the thing---the authors sometimes needs that feedback to carry on. Especially if they are newbies. I've been writing fanfic for at least 10 years---maybe more. And the one thing a newbie or any fanfic writer has to know---just because you aren't getting feedback doesn't mean it's not being read. Sometimes you just don't have the time for feedback. Which is why I love the sites where it tells you how many views your piece has gotten.
That said, this is why I say---find the time to send feedback, on or off the list. And if you run into a newbie who is discouraged, tell them, it takes time. Remember one thing---you are writing for yourself and if somebody else acknowledges it, that's the icing on the cake. And also remember---quality over quantity. Better one glowing feedback then 5 so-so ones. : ) Prolific Peggy.
